New Doctor Who

David Tennant - the 1oth Doctor Who (I'm a big fan of his) - will be leaving the role after filming four more Doctor Who specials. Since he made his announcement there has been a lot of speculation as to who would take over the role that was created in 1963 (before my time) and has been portrayed by ten different actors to date. Today the announcement was made and Doctor Who's 11th regeneration has been revealed.

When David Tennant steps out of the Doctor's shoes for the fifth series in 2010 an actor named Matt Smith will be stepping into them.

I don't know who he is, haven't seen any of his work, and I don't have an opinion on what kind of a Doctor he will be. I guess I will have to wait until the CBC airs the 2010 series (which will likely be in 2011) before I can form an opinion.

I am, however, sad to know that my favourite Doctor Who incarnation -- David Tennant -- will be leaving the role after the four upcoming 2008 Doctor Who specials. He restored my faith in this long running series and truly became my image of the time traveling Doctor. Regardless of how long the series continues to run, David Tennant will always be MY Doctor Who (my second favourite would be Peter Davison, who portrayed the 5th Doctor and was the first Doctor Who that I ever watched). I hope the series will continue to be entertaining and enjoyable, but I will miss David Tennant immensely.

I have to say I never watched the Show but might have to catch a Episode to see what it's all about. Hope the new Dr Who will be just as great as the current 1.
